LFW AW15: Christopher Raeburn

Christopher Raeburn, in my eyes, can do no wrong and proves that commercial doesn’t mean boring, when done with got-to-have punchy oranges and wear-with-everything khakis and blues. This is really proving orange is the new black.

The classic Raeburn animal-of-the-season was a shark this season, with schools of swimming blue sharks branded all around Somerset House this London Fashion Week. These snappy sharks were characterised in the collection by finned mittens and the aforementioned swimming schools.

That illusive cool girl look was nailed, and I imagine that there will be a sea full of Christopher Raeburn girls next season in sleek utility jumpsuits or flirty skirts, topped with practical waterproof outerwear, flats and a furry backpack. This girl is unmistakably British, in that effortlessly quirky way we do so well.

Raeburn took the winning formula from his A/W 15 menswear catwalk– with the most simple of layering, lack of accessories, and embracing the new minimalism where just really useful and well-designed basics are championed. However, it wasn’t a copy-cat for his menswear collection, as the cocooning and cape silhouettes of the outerwear took it to a different dimension than the life-raft puffers of Raeburn’s menswear.
