Grrrl Power Liverpool: Where Do You Find Yourself in the Arts?

Grrrl Power Liverpool: Where Do You Find Yourself in the Arts?

Loaded with leopard print, Spice Girls font, a library of feminist literature, Riot Grrrl heart, and, of course, girl power, new Liverpool-based women-led collective Grrrl Power Liverpool are ready to kickstart with their first event on Friday 5th August, with an exhibition launch that invites you to join the discussion: ‘Women: Where Do You Find Yourself in the Arts?’

Fostered by ignorance and inactivity, the creative sector unfortunately still falls short for women. In an act of total female solidarity, the Grrrl Power grrrls are making statements and creating spaces in response to unjust inequalities. The emphasis is creative women working together to support other creative women. The exhibition will showcase artwork submitted by self-identified women artists in response to the question above,

The event will run for two days at Constellations, Liverpool. The launch night will take place from 7pm on Friday 5th August. The evening will include music from DJs JELL, Jan Lea and Faux Queens. On Sunday 7th of August, the discussion will continue with free workshops and talks, including a talk with feminist digital platform Queen of the Track zine, who will explore the barriers that women face in cultural production, and a discussion with the CEO and Editor-in-Chief, Tahmina Begum of XXY Magazine, investigating the inequalities that women of colour face in the arts. To reserve a place at either discussion email grrrlpowerliverpool@gmail.com.

Whatever gender you identify with, you absolutely cannot miss the chance to support and party with your new grrrl gang. Tickets for the Friday are available from Skiddle now.
